Duke Center for Finance
The Duke Center for Finance (DCF) supports excellence in financial research and education at Duke, with particular emphasis on strengthening relationships between faculty, students, and finance professionals. Established in 2008, the Center is designed to enhance interaction within the finance community at Duke University and to create a bridge between this community and business practitioners with interests in banking, corporate finance and financial markets in general. The synergies and the cooperative spirit that the Center fosters will not only allow Duke to compete with other top academic institutions in the field of finance, but also to facilitate the exchange of finance knowledge across various benefitting constituents.
The finance group at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business consists of 18 professors, and has doubled in size in the last 15 years. This group combines research productivity and impact with teaching quality at a high level that is found only at a handful of other institutions. For example, recent evidence indicates that the Duke’s finance faculty publishes more research per capita than any other finance department in the world. It also ranks sixth in terms of the per-capita rate at which this research is cited by other scholars, and several papers produced at Duke have recently won research awards. In addition, the finance group has a long history of teaching excellence, garnering many teaching awards and other recognition.
A key aspect of the Duke Center for Finance’s mission is to leverage this research productivity and teaching excellence to the benefit of students, faculty, practitioner affiliates, the Fuqua School of Business, and Duke University. Given the reach of Fuqua and Duke across several continents, the Center’s objective is to have a significant global impact and propel finance at Duke to yet a higher level of excellence. Indeed, by facilitating innovative curriculum, research, and interactions with practitioners, the Center will play a vital role in encouraging dialogue and fresh thinking among corporate leaders, and helps prepare both students and finance leaders for the challenges facing the global economy.
