CIBER

The Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) program was created by the United States Congress under the Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act of 1988 in order to increase and promote America's capacity for international understanding and economic competitiveness. It is administered by the U.S. Department of Education under Title VI, Part B of the Higher Education Act of 1965 through a competitive bid.

The program provides funding to schools of business for curriculum development, research, and training on issues of importance to U.S. trade and competitiveness. Currently, there are 31 CIBERs located at major universities throughout the United States. Many CIBERs form consortiums and collaborate on outreach projects important to their centers.

The need for language learning, international understanding, and capacity building has become increasingly important for U.S. competitiveness, national security, and global peace.

About Our Center

The Duke University Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) was established in 1992 by the Duke Fuqua School of Business under the direction of Professor Yair Aharoni. There are 31 CIBERs located throughout the United States and funded by the U.S. Department of Education under Title VI through a competitive bid process.

Since its inception, the Duke CIBER's main goal has been to internationalize the Duke Fuqua School of Business by incorporating international content into core courses, developing specialized international electives and innovative teaching materials, enrolling students in foreign language courses, and promoting international research.

In addition, the Duke CIBER collaborates with other CIBERs to carry out projects and engages in outreach activities with other centers and departments at Duke University, as well as other colleges and universities, businesses, and communities.

These efforts will enhance the international development of our faculty and students, the Duke Fuqua School of Business, and our community, contributing to the global well-being of our nation-state.
