Decision-Making Curriculum Modules

This page contains four of the high school modules that have been developed:

  1. The Perfect Job. This exercise makes students think about their values in the context of a familiar decision. Students first think about things that are important to them (values) and then they think about characteristics of a job that match their values. This is a cooperative-learning exercise, blending individual work with discussion between pairs of students. DRAFT.
  2. Purposes of a Map. This exercise demonstrates that maps made for different purposes can have very different characteristics. For example, students might create maps of their houses for out-of-town guests, handicapped visitors, or burglars! The message is that one should consider the specific objectives to be achieved before setting out to design a map (or anything for that matter). DRAFT.
  3. The Mountain Bike. In this exercise, students play the roles of buyer and seller of a mountain bike and attempt to negotiate a deal. Basic negotiation terminology is presented. DRAFT.
  4. A Tale of Two Scientists. This exercise shows that scientists can have different views for valid reasons. Even science is not entirely objective! Students have to consider opposing perspectives. DRAFT.
